READING: TUESDAY AFTERNOON'S LESSON
I will read through the story 'Zombie on the Roof' (pictures are below).
Your tasks will be to list the key events (which will help you with our writing lesson on Thursday) and answer the 10 Comprehension Questions about the text (under the pictures). Q9 & Q10 require more detail and explanation, so remember our reading sentence starters:
I KNOW THIS BECAUSE ...
THIS MEANS THAT ...
THE AUTHOR WANTS ME TO THINK ...
WRITING: THURSDAY MORNING'S LESSON
This week, we'll be doing some instruction writing for how to defeat a zombie - based on the story!
In our lesson, we will go through the structure and layout of instructions and the type of vocabulary that is needed. We did instructions a little while ago when we needed to make a mummy - you should have your published copies at home (or the draft ones in your English book if you're in school), so use those to help you as well.
A Powerpoint is below that shows an example of a detailed instruction text - it isn't basic sentences like you would have done in KS1; we can all add extra information, as well as time connectives, imperative verbs and specific adverbs. Make sure you have a title and a short introduction to your instructions and an equipment list before you start your step-by-step guide. You can also include 'extra tips' or maybe a 'warning' too.
The success criteria we used before is also below, as is a Word Mat for you to improve some of your vocabulary.
I will upload the one we start together after our lesson on Thursday, so you can use that to magpie from as well.
