On 16^th March, Sandford Primary took to the sporting field again. This time it was the turn of the Year 5/6 Quickstick Hockey players and they certainly delivered some high quality hockey! Pooled in a group stage with Mendip Green, St. Annes and Windwhistle, an inexperienced Sandford team surged through their group stage with a perfect 3 wins from 3. No time to rest for the jubilant Sandford team, they were immediately matched against St. Martins in the Quarter Finals. A hard fought match ended with Sandford pulling away and finishing 4-0 winners. Onto the Semi Finals versus Blagdon, and what a match! A high paced and skilful encounter, ended with Blagdon squeezing through to the final with a 1-0 win. Sandford couldn’t reflect on a highly successful tournament yet, they still had the 3^rd Place Play-off versus Walliscote. An incredibly entertaining contest, with goal cancelled out by goal, near misses and saves on the line concluding with Sandford emerging 4-3 winners and claiming 3^rd Place. An amazing achievement by the hockey players, many of whom had never played hockey before, to finish 3^rd out of 23! A special mention goes to Mrs Callow for her hockey expertise and support.
