Our Library has a vast selection of fiction, non-fiction and poetry books. We encourage children to enrich their reading diet with a range of different text types. Why not take a look at what we have!

Reading at Sandford

In KS1, children work through the Phase 2-5 books that support and follow our Phonics scheme: Unlocking Letters and Sounds.

Beyond Phase 5 books, we have 5 coloured 'book bands' to bridge the gap to becoming a Free Reader. These are Turquoise, Purple, Gold, White & Lime.

Children can them choose their own reading book from the selection we have, or own books from home. Teachers will provide opportunities for children to choose a book from the Library.

We also run our Laureate Award, which offers the challenge of reading a list of 50 books for each year. There is a Beyond Laureate list for further recommended books in each age group.

Sandford Librarians

Children from Years 2 - 6 have the opportunity each term to apply for the position of Librarian. This is a role that they hold for the term, where they will help to keep the Library tidy, provide book recommendations to the classes and continue to develop the love of reading across the school.
