W.B. 23.11.20

This week, Class 3 are looking at poetry, specifically poetry about a Roman soldier. We are looking at the structure of a poem and the language used by the poet. An important note that the children have already picked up on is that not every poem has to rhyme!

TASK: Read through the poem and discuss each stanza with a partner/adult.

Possible Questions to think about;

What is the poem about?

Are there any words/phrases that stand out? Why do you think the poet has used them?

How does the poet want us to feel?

How does the soldier feel in the poem? Does this change as the poem progresses?

TASK 2: Using the poem as a guide, create your own poetic verse about a Roman soldier.
